16-Year-Old Andreeva Tops Krejcikova, Becomes Youngest to Ever Win China Open Match

By Chris Oddo | @TheFanChild | Sunday October 1, 2023

16-year-old Mirra Andreeva continues her winning ways in 2023.

The Russian teen, ranked 62, defeated Barbora Krejcikova on Sunday at the China Open, 6-2, 6-2, to become the youngest player to ever win a match at the 1000-level event in Beijing.

At 16 years and 155 days old, Andreeva surpasses Tamira Paszek, who was aged 16 years and 287 days when she defeated Jill Craybas in 2007.

Andreeva, who qualified for the main draw, improves to 2-0 lifetime against 10th-seeded Krejcikova and notches her first ever Top-20 win on a hard court.

In total, she has notched four Top-20 wins in 2023 (4-4) and crafted a 31-7 record across all levels.

Andreev has been quite the story in 2023, debuting at Roland-Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open and winning at least a round in each.

16,155 – At 16 years and 155 days, Mirra Andreeva has now become the youngest ever match winner at the China Open, surpassing Tamira Paszek’s mark of 16 years and 287 days when she defeated Jill Craybas in 2007. Wow.#ChinaOpen | @ChinaOpen @WTA @WTA_insider pic.twitter.com/BjIV3VBR66

She reached the Australian Open girls final in January, then qualified for Roland-Garros, where she reached the third round, and Wimbledon, where she reached the round of 16.

At the US Open, Andreeva fell to eventual champion Coco Gauff in the second round.

Not counting qualies, Andreeva is 12-6 at tour-level. She will face Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, who is twice her age at 32, in the second round at Beijing
