Northern Ireland’s Mark Allen exited the English Open at the last 32 stage after a 4-2 defeat by England’s Matthew Selt.
A break of 103 helped the Antrim man lead 2-0 but runs of 79, 114 and 72 put Selt ahead before he clinched victory in a scrappy sixth frame.
Allen won three titles last season including the UK Championship but has made a slow start to this campaign.
Selt’s victory sets up a last-16 match with compatriot Ricky Walden.
Walden came from 3-0 down and requiring a snooker in the fourth frame to beat Scotland’s former world champion Graeme Dott.
Judd Trump was pushed all the way before he came through 4-3 against Jimmy Robertson with John Higgins also progressing to the last 16 by defeating Mark Davis 4-0.
Ronnie O’Sullivan will face China’s Si Jiahui in the last 32 on Thursday after beating Welsh youngster Jackson Page 4-1 in the second round on Wednesday.
