The world of swimming has witnessed its share of extraordinary moments, and one such moment unfolded recently at Swim Lessons Hawaii when two-time American Paralympic medalist Elizabeth “Lizzi” Smith visited. As Smith prepares for the 2024 Paralympics in France from her base of Austin, Texas,  her visit to Hawaii has not only energized the local sports community but has also inspired the next generation of swimmers.

Smith’s decision to choose Hawaii as a training visit for the 2024 Paralympics created a perfect opportunity for local swimming enthusiasts to connect with someone of her caliber. The visit was marked by enthusiasm and admiration as young swimmers gathered to catch a glimpse of the swimming sensation.

The school’s founder and head coach, Oleksii Savenko, expressed his gratitude for Smith’s visit, saying,

Smith also addressed the school’s students, emphasizing the importance of hard work, discipline, and a never-give-up attitude in achieving success in swimming and life. She shared personal anecdotes from her  Paralympic journey, illustrating the challenges she overcame and the resilience that carried her to the pinnacle of her sport.

This event was attended not only by local swimming clubs for children but also by the U.S. Masters Swimming  adult group, showcasing the unity of the local sports community. Local clubs came together in unity to celebrate the spirit of swimming and the remarkable achievements of Elizabeth Smith.

One of the swimmers, Matthew expressed his excitement, saying, “Meeting Elizabeth Smith was like a dream come true. She’s an inspiration for all of us. I can’t wait to apply what I learned from her to my training.”
