Judd Trump maintained his hopes of winning back-to-back ranking titles with a comfortable victory over China’s Wu Yize in the Wuhan Open semi-finals.
The world number four, fresh from his victory in the English Open, made two century breaks and four more over 50 in his 6-1 win over Wu, 20.
Trump, 34, will face fellow Englishman Ali Carter in Sunday’s final.
Carter, 44, reached his 12th ranking final with a 6-2 win over China’s Lyu Haotian.
Masters champion Trump opened with a break of 117 and kept the pressure on Wu to take a 4-0 lead into the interval.
Wu, ranked 49th in the world, pegged a frame back, before the 2019 world champion sealed victory with breaks of 127 and 63.
Carter, meanwhile, reeled off the final four frames with runs of 96, 122, 91 and 70 to see off Lyu, 25, who failed to rekindle the form that saw him beat Ronnie O’Sullivan 5-1 in the last eight.
World number 11 Carter, who claimed the last of his five ranking titles at the German Masters in February, has two previous tournament victories to his name on Chinese soil.
“All I could do was take my chances,” said Carter, who won the 2010 Shanghai Masters and 2016 World Open in Yushan.
“He gave me four chances and I made four frame-winning breaks. I was particularly pleased to win the last frame in one hit. Anyone will tell you that it is never easy to get over the line and reach a big final.”
