All About Swansea – World Snooker

Chris Wakelin won the Shoot Out last season, beating Julien Leclercq in the final

The BetVictor Shoot Out will be staged in Swansea for the first time this season, giving fans in South Wales the chance to enjoy this unique event.

By Tomos Wyn Jones

The tournament runs from December 6-9 at Swansea Arena. Tickets are still available from just £20 – for details CLICK HERE.

If you are planning your trip, here are some key details about the second biggest city in Wales, which has a population over 300,000 people.

Getting to Swansea

By car, Swansea is easily reached from the M4, then just follow signs to the city centre. Swansea train station is just 17 minutes walk from the venue. The nearest airport is in Cardiff, which is an hour drive. For more travel information click here.

The Venue

Swansea Arena is a multi-purpose entertainment building which hosts a variety of events year-round, including music and comedy shows. Michael McIntyre and Jimmy Carr are among the other acts billed for December.

What to do in the city?

Swansea is one of the most vibrant locations in Wales and there is so much to do for visitors, including…

The Waterfront Museum

Just 10 minutes walk from Swansea railway station, this museum tells the story of industry and innovation in Wales over the past 300 years. Soak up the history with a breathtaking mix of old and new in the city’s rapidly developing maritime quarter. Entry to the museum is free!

Plantasia Tropical Zoo

Located in the heart of the city centre, this tropical zoo has a fully immersive adventure experience for all the family, with an incredible variety of animals and plants. It’s a real living rainforest where you can see snakes, lizards, tortoises, iguanas, marmosets, parrots, and even feed crocodiles if you book the VIP package. A standard family ticket costs just £26.50 and it’s a day to remember.

Swansea Indoor Market

First established during the 12th century, Swansea Indoor Market has become the biggest of its kind in Wales. From Monday to Saturday, there is a vast selection of specialist stalls offering fresh, local produce, delicious food, antiques and much more. Plus there is live music and other entertainment on certain days. Just five minutes walk from the venue, it is a great place to explore when the players aren’t on the baize.

For information on these attractions and much more click here or here.

Local Food and Drink

Wales prides itself on producing the best lamb in the world. You can enjoy it served in many different ways, such a Cawl which is a stew of lamb and vegetables, in restaurants throughout Swansea. The most popular local desert is Welsh cakes, made from flour, sugar, milk and butter, then griddled and served with sugar or butter. For a list of places to eat in Swansea, click here.
