CLUBS OF THE QUARTER
Broadview Tennis Club continues its drive and commitment to implement their future vision for the better of precinct. The club has recently been involved in an expression of interest supporting the City of Prospect, who are looking to implement a future operating model and precinct upgrade strategy to provide high quality tennis facilities and programs for the local community and the generations to come.
In line with this, Broadview Tennis Club has recently installed an Igloohome padlock at the venue enabling additional community participation when club volunteers are not at the club. Court hire is now available through their ClubSpark website and is offered to all members and the public.
Martin Richards (head coach) has also continued to work with Tennis SA to achieve more club goals, which included implementing a girls only squad and a new blind and low vision program. Both programs will be vital to promote participation to the wider community and creating a safer and inclusive environment.
The committee members are all fully trained in the use of ClubSpark which was utilised to enable an easy process for payments of registration fees. This has seen the club achieve a 100% strike rate for summer competitions, with all members paying their fees prior to their first match of the season. This is a wonderful achievement from the club’s dedicated volunteers, club captains and club treasurer.
The club also continues to support Tennis SA with the recent confirmation of the club being used as an offsite practice venue for the 2024 Adelaide International. This will be the fourth time the club has hosted international players at the venue and the committee are looking forward to being a part of the event once again.

Port Elliot Tennis Club established in 1914 boasts six hard courts on a beach front environment. Located on South Australia’s picturesque Fleurieu Peninsula, players can hear the waves crashing and the train passing by as they play. Whether playing competition in the Great Southern Tennis Association, social tennis during the week or starting your journey learning Hot Shots the club is committed to creating a positive and welcoming culture for all wanting to get involved in the sport.
Throughout the past few months, the club has appointed a new club coach which has helped develop and improve the ability of both their younger and more senior players. They have also heavily promoted their Orange Ball program to further the transition from Hot Shots to competition and have had several senior players assist at training and host match play sessions to help further and strengthen the connection between club members of all ages. For older players, the club has offers both social and night tennis programs which has recently seen an increase in numbers, this helps provide an avenue for participation for older players to remain involved in the sport as well as those looking for a more laid back and less competitive experience.
To achieve these improvements the club has strongly engaged with the local community promoting themselves to local schools, senior groups as well as allowing local groups to host events at their venue. The courts at the club are also accessible via hire by both members and the community alike, helping further highlight the Port Elliot Tennis Club as a fixture of the local community. This promotion has been on the back of the club’s very strong digital presence helping keep members and the community informed on everything the club has to offer.

VOLUNTEERS OF THE QUARTER
Rebecca currently holds the positions of club treasurer, junior coordinator & is an association rep for Tumby Bay Tennis Club, while also assisting the club coach with trainings. Her involvement spans across 6 years, 3 of which have been in the treasurer role. She provides valuable input in a multitude of areas including the following:
- Managing finances for the club
- Organising junior competition teams
- On court at training nights for up to two hours assisting our club coach
- Assisting in the running of the canteen on a Friday night
- Attending association meetings
Bec has been a driving force behind Tumby Bay’s improvement as a club and is continually looking for more ways to improve the experience for the local community and the club’s members. This includes establishing a sub junior competition which saw an influx in junior numbers and planning the club’s junior tournament this season for the first time in 10 years. The club also adopted Tennis SA systems, including ClubSpark to help manage memberships registrations. With this improvement in the administrative tasks, the club has seen an increase in funds which has helped with general maintenance and coaching. The club has also recently added court hire to their offering to promote local community participation.
Ultimately, Bec is very community minded and gets enjoyment from seeing the local kids develop their skills and have fun through sport. While being a part of a community club as a volunteer can be very time consuming, Bec find this very rewarding. Being a part of the club’s growth and building great friendships makes the experience well worth it. Everyone at the club appreciates the time and effort Bec provides to her community.

Coleen is the treasurer of Cudlee Creek Tennis Club and has been involved in the committee since 2018. Her role as treasurer consists of looking after financials including planning, budgeting, and reporting as well as looking for funding opportunities and organising fundraising events.
With combined efforts from Coleen and Michelle, the club’s secretary, they have been successful for grants which covered the resurfacing of the clubs three courts and saw the installation of a wheelchair ramp and a rebuild of a retaining wall. Coleen also worked on the success grant application to have solar panels installed which will increase the sustainability of the club and reduce overall electricity costs.
Additionally, Coleen organised coaching for juniors at affordable costs and runs the club’s social media account and ClubSpark website. She is always thinking of new ways to promote the club and raise money for future projects.
Coleen is surprised by how much she has and can contribute to the club. The main reason she is involved in tennis is because her son plays and she wants to see the club be successful and continue to grow, keeping regional tennis alive. Coleen’s advice to anyone wanting to be part of a club is: “Don’t be afraid of making mistakes, there will be people you can ask for help. You may be surprised at what you can achieve if you give it a try.”
