NORTHERN LAKES
Alanson 80, Wolverine 44
WOLVERINE — Christian Silveus flirted with a 30-point game in the opener for the Alanson boys, finishing with 28 points in the first half last week.
On Monday at Wolverine, Silveus finished the job, leading with 32 points in an 80-44 win over Wolverine.
“It’s always nice to get a big win on the road against a conference opponent,” Alanson coach Brian Kujawa said. “There won’t be any easy wins in this league this year. Our focus right now is on what we can control in the games, protecting the ball and keeping our mental focus for 32 minutes. We have a long way to go to get to where we need to be if we are going to compete for a conference championship.”
Mason Weidenhamer added 14 points, 12 rebounds and five assists, Troy Johnson had 12 points and seven rebounds and Donavon Honeysette had 11 rebounds.
Weidenhamer also scored 16 and had 17 rebounds in a recent loss to Pickford, while Honeysette and Silveus each had 12 in the loss.
Alanson (2-1) next heads to Cedarville on Monday, Dec. 11.

Ellsworth 60, Harbor Light 54
ELLSWORTH — A league rival and contender was just what the Ellsworth boys basketball team needed apparently to break an 0-3 start to the season.
The Lancers picked up a 60-54 win over Harbor Light Christian in their first home game of the 2023-24 season, led by 31 points from Patrick Puroll.
“Down the stretch we just couldn’t put the game away,” Harbor Light coach Jason Roussin said. “Ellsworth got hot and hit a bunch of free throws and the charity stripe wasn’t a successful spot for us throughout the night. We knew it would be a competitive game down there.”
Ellsworth came back from down 46-32 after three to earn the victory, with Evincio LaCount and Ben Strange adding 12 and 10 points, respectively, much of them in the 28-point fourth. Puroll also had six rebounds and four assists.
For Harbor Light, David Chamberlin had 14 points and nine rebounds, Landon Jakeway had 14 points and Corin Paulus had 12 points and seven rebounds. Kirk Rose also had eight rebounds.
The Swordsmen won the JV game 61-37, led by Daniel Urman’s 15 points.
Harbor Light (1-1) next welcomes Wolverine Thursday, Dec. 7, while Ellsworth (1-3) welcomes Mackinaw City Thursday.
