Revamping the Cross Bronx Expressway
The federal Department of Transportation has earmarked $150 million for a community connector project on the Cross Bronx Expressway. This initiative includes new bus lanes, cyclist trails, and pedestrian pathways. It forms part of a more extensive plan to revitalize and replace five bridges along the expressway, notorious for its impact on the Bronx’s communities, particularly those of color. The project aims to bridge neighborhoods, providing a direct link to Starlight Park and the Bronx River Greenway, addressing environmental injustices caused by the expressway.
Annual E-Cycling & Shred Day Returns
On Saturday, January 13, 2024, the Coastal Alabama Business Chamber will host the Annual E-Cycling & Shred Day event, in partnership with the cities of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, the Gulf State Park, and sponsors Baldwin EMC and Baldwin County Sewer Service. The free event invites attendees to dispose of personal paper documents and electronic items responsibly. The event organizers have placed a 50-pound limit on shred items per vehicle, all of which will be shredded on-site.
Paris 2024 to Host ‘Cycling Games’
The Paris 2024 OCOG plans to organize the first-ever ‘cycling Games’ next year, where all venues will be accessible via bicycle. Paris and the Ile-de-France region, known for their extensive cycle paths, plan to add more specifically for the Games. There will also be a significant increase in the number of available bicycles, along with additional parking spaces for bicycles near the competition venues.
Five riders, including Lara Gillespie, Alice Sharpe, Mia Griffin, Kelly Murphy, and Erin Creighton, have been selected to represent Ireland at the 2024 UEC Track European Championships in Apeldoorn, Netherlands. The team will compete in women’s endurance events, focusing on the Women’s Team Pursuit Event and Ireland’s qualification campaign for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
