Kamran Majid from Jammu and Kashmir is one of the six Indian players chosen to compete in the IBSF World Under-21 Snooker Championship.
Speaking exclusively to Excelsior, Kamran Majid expressed his excitement about representing his country and UT at the upcoming IBSF World U-21 Snooker Championship. He proudly stated that he is the only player from Jammu and Kashmir in the past 17 years to compete in this esteemed tournament.
Younis Kochey was the last from Kashmir who participated in IBSF World U-21 Snooker Championship in 2007.
The IBSF World U-21 (boys & girls) and the U-17 (boys) Snooker Championships will be held from August 24-31 in Bangalore. The IBSF World Under-21 Snooker Championship (also known as the World Amateur Under-21 Snooker Championship).
Kamran is presently ranked 4 (junior) in India and is the State Champion in Billiards and the District Champion in Snooker. Over a hundred players from about 25 countries are expected to take part; six entries from India will be given in each event according to their national ranking.
In response to a question about family support, Kamran stated, “I am fortunate that my parents, who are doctors, have always supported me at every turn in my life. I’ve been playing this game professionally for the past five years, training under my coach Yasin Merchant. I’m working hard at the Snooker Academy in Kashmir, and hopefully will do my best in the International tournament.”
The other six players who are participating in the junior category from India are Ranveer Guggal (Chd), Mayur Garg (Guj), Mahendra Chauhan (MP), Gadda Srikanth (TLGN), Kamran Majid (JK) and K.Vibhas (TLNG).
