Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova’s Australian Open is over before it began.

Two-time major champion Krejcikova has withdrawn from the season’s first Grand Slam due to an ongoing back issue.

Pegula: Swiatek Case Evokes Faith and Frustration

“Hi everyone, I wanted to share a quick update regarding my withdrawal from the Australian Open. Unfortunately, my back injury, which troubled me at the end of last season, is still not fully healed,” Krejcikova posted on social media. “It’s really disappointing because I love playing in Melbourne and have such great memories from reaching the quarterfinals last year.

“Thanks to all of you for your support. I’m working hard to get back to full health, and I can’t wait to see you on the court soon!”

World No. 10 Krejcikova, who was scheduled to be the 10th seed at the Australian Open, has not played a match since bowing to Zheng Qinwen in the WTA Finals semifinals in Riyadh, Saudia Arabia last November. Krejcikova handed world No. 3 Coco Gauff her lone defeat en route to her maiden WTA Finals championship.

Katerina Siniakova and Krejcikova partnered to capture consecutive Australian Open doubles titles in 2022 and 2023.

Last July, Krejcikova converted her third championship point defeating Jasmine Paolini 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 to capture her maiden Wimbledon singles championship.

It was the second Grand Slam singles championship in the last three years for the 2021 Roland Garros singles and doubles champion Krejcikova and it left her feeling “unbelievable.”

Krejcikova joins former No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki and former US Open finalist Karolina Pliskova in pulling out of Melbourne.

The 2025 Australian Open main draw is set for January 12-26th.
