Sauber sets up new UK Technical Centre ahead of Audi F1 entry

Sauber Motorsport is taking a significant step in its evolution into Audi’s works Formula 1 team by announcing plans to establish a new technical centre in the United Kingdom.

The move is designed to bolster Sauber’s technical capabilities and tap into the rich motorsport expertise found in Britain’s ‘Motorsport Valley’.

This strategic initiative underscores the Swiss outfit’s commitment to building a competitive foundation for its partnership with Audi that will launch in 2026.

Strategic Expansion in Motorsport Valley

Sauber’s British Motorsport Technology Centre will serve as an extension of the team’s existing operations, complementing its primary base in Hinwil.

By establishing a presence in the UK, Sauber gains access to a vast pool of motorsport talent and expertise, crucial for success in Formula 1.

“Recognised as the birthplace of Formula One, the UK is home to most F1 teams and around 25,000 industry professionals,” stated Sauber’s press release.

This proximity to key industry players and specialists will facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing, further enhancing Sauber’s technical prowess.

Building a Foundation for 2026

The new facility is a key element of the Audi F1 Project’s long-term strategy. It aims to strengthen and expand the team’s technical capabilities in preparation for the 2026 season.

Sauber is currently considering several locations within ‘Motorsport Valley’, including Bicester, Silverstone, and Milton Keynes.

The team plans to have its UK Technical Centre operational by the summer of 2025, giving them ample time to integrate the new facility into their existing infrastructure.

Mattia Binotto, COO and CTO of Sauber Motorsport, emphasized the strategic importance of this expansion.

“We are excited to establish our technical centre in the UK to complement our key site in Hinwil, which will continue to lead our main engineering operations and experience the largest team growth,” Binotto stated.

“Expanding into the UK allows us to remain close to one of the world’s most dynamic motorsport ecosystems.

Our vision is to create a strong, collaborative network across Hinwil and the UK, driving innovation and performance.”

The new technical center represents a significant investment in Sauber’s future and reinforces their dedication to achieving success in the highly competitive world of Formula 1.
