Roos Vanotterdijk Crushes Belgian 100 Back Record In Antwerp

Roos Vanotterdijk crushed her Belgian 100 back record in 58.97 as she claimed two more titles on day two of the Flanders Cup in Antwerp.

Out in 28.82 and back in 30.15, the European bronze medallist sliced 0.65 from her national standard of 59.62 from 2023. With that she completed the 50/100 double after she was just 0.01 shy of her Belgian mark in the shorter race on the opening day in Antwerp. The 20-year-old also confirmed qualification for the World Championships in Singapore.

Fleur Verdonck replicated her second place in the 50 in 1:02.11 with Zulal Zeren third in 1:03.33.

Vanotterdijk returned for the 50 fly with the European silver medallist enjoying a clear victory in 25.95 with Patricija Kondraskaite of Lithuania second in 26.98 and Pauline Zeller completing the podium in 27.80.

With one day to go at the Flanders Cup, Vanotterdijk has so far claimed three golds (50/100 back and 100 fly) and a bronze in the 50 free.

Swim Ireland enjoyed a 1-2 in the men’s 100 free with Evan Bailey leading home Shane Ryan in 49.53 to 49.90. It was a second title of the meet for Bailey after his 100 fly victory in the 100 fly on Friday.

Ellie McCartney kept the Swim Ireland momentum going with victory in the 100m breaststroke in 1:08.94 to clinch the 100/200 double. Lisa Mamie followed her home in 1:09.59 to replicate her second-placed finish in the longer race with Lies Gobert third in 1:11.10.

Stan Franckx was third in 50.86 as the Belgian made his second trip of the evening to the podium following victory in the 50 back in 25.62.

Milou van Wijk added the 200 free to the 50 title she won on the opening day, stopping the clock at 2:03.23 ahead of Lotte Vanhauwaert (2:03.87) and Siri Vanderlin (2:04.70). Vanderlin had also posted the fastest 1500 of 17:11.97 to add to her 400 free victory on the opening day.

Ivo Kroes clinched the men’s 50/100br double with victory over one length in 28.56.

Djanilla Brink came from sixth at halfway to move into the lead after the breaststroke leg of the 400IM. The Netherlands swimmer went on to touch first despite the best efforts of Nikita van den Outen who ate into the deficit on the final 50, Brink winning in 4:59.85 to 5:00.11.

A 28.78 final 50 guided Joseph van Wellen to the 200IM title in 2:07.24, Cormac Rynn was the only man inside 4mins in the 400 free to win in 3:59.21 and Xander Hebb took the 200 fly in 2:07.60.
