Roos Vanotterdijk Continues Record-Breaking Run As Flanders Cup Wraps Up on Fine Day For Swim Ireland

Roos Vanotterdijk set her second Belgian record in as many days as she took almost a second off her 100 free standard in 53.62 as the Flanders Cup wrapped up in Antwerp.

The 20-year-old touched in 53.62 to take 0.89 from her record of 54.51 set in February 2023, a day after lowering her 100 back mark to 58.97, as she finished second behind Milou van Wijk of the Netherlands who touched in 53.51 to complete the 50-100-200 free treble.

Danielle Farrell of the National Centre Limerick was third in 56.79.

It was a fine day for Irish swimmers as the Flanders Cup 2025 came to an end.

John Shortt wrapped up the 100-200 back double after coming from 0.35 down at the turn to move past Noah Verreth and Stan Franckx in 55.54. Verreth was second in 55.63 with Franckx completing the podium in 55.80 as 0.26 separated the trio.

Evan Bailey led a National Centre Limerick 1-2 in the men’s 200 free, leading throughout to stop the clock in 1:48.70 for his third title of the meet in 1:48.90. Cormac Rynn was second in 1:50.97 with Koen Marsman next home in 1:51.84.

Ellie McCartney kept the Irish medal run going with victory in the 200IM in 2:16.63 to claim her third title after the 100/200br double. She was followed home by Zinke Delcommune (2:19.24) and Djanilla Brink, the winner of the 400IM third in 2:21.28.

After silvers in the 50 and 100 free, Shane Ryan upgraded to gold in the 50 fly in 23.57 ahead of Vincent van Hooydonck (24.21) and Julien Henx (24.44).

European bronze medallist Eszter Szabo Feltothy took the 200 back title in 2:12.49 ahead of Zulal Zeren who enjoyed a margin of almost eight seconds over third in 2:14.66.

Elina van de Cloot headed the 100 fly in 1:02.75 and Hylcke de Beer won the 50br in 32.31. Noah Schryver won the men’s 200br in 2:12.54, Noah Martens posted the fastest 800 free of 8:21.47
