How Liverpool’s fixtures compare to Arsenal’s after midweek Premier League action

Liverpool have strengthened their grip on the Premier League title following Wednesday night’s results.

The weekend felt significant at the top as the Reds capitalised on Arsenal’s defeat to West Ham by winning at Manchester City, but the quick turnaround meant there was a chance for another swift dynamic shift at the summit.

The Gunners, though, could only muster a point at Nottingham Forest, while Liverpool eased to victory at home to a Alexander Isak-less Newcastle despite manager Arne Slot serving the first of his two-game touchline ban.

The gap is now 13 points. Liverpool will be aiming to extend their advantage over the coming weeks and wrap up the title at the earliest possible juncture. Here’s how their next five league games compare to Arsenal’s.

Liverpool’s attentions now shift to the Champions League and a tough round of 16 tie with Paris Saint-Germain. Slot will be in the dugout at the Parc des Princes next week before serving the last game of his touchline ban when a hapless Southampton visit Anfield on 8 March.

That’s their final Premier League outing of the month, with the Carabao Cup final preceding the first international break since November.

Liverpool are back in action in some style at the start of April as they host what’s bound to be a spicy Merseyside derby given what transpired at Goodison Park earlier this month. The domestic schedule picks up again with a trip down to Fulham arriving three days later. The Cottagers earned a point in the reverse fixture, but Liverpool did play much of the contest with ten men after Andy Robertson’s first half sending off.

West Ham have recently shown they won’t be a walkover when they visit Anfield on 12 April, but Leicester have offered little resistance upon their return to the top flight. The Foxes may well have another new manager by the time Liverpool visit.

Arsenal are out of the FA Cup, so they have the weekend off before they take on PSV Eindhoven away from home in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie. Up next for the Gunners in the Premier League is a trip to Manchester United the following Sunday.

United have had their fair share of issues this season, but Ruben Amorim’s side have saved their best work for the division’s best under his tutelage. The Red Devils knocked Arsenal out of the FA Cup in January.

Arsenal then face Chelsea on the day of the Carabao Cup final before their players spend time with their respective national teams. Bukayo Saka, who’s been out since Christmas with a torn hamstring, is slated to make his comeback around this time, with the 1 April clash at home to Fulham tipped as a potential return date. The Gunners’ situation in the Premier League and Champions League may determine just how cautious Mikel Arteta is regarding his star winger’s reintegration.

The north Londoners then travel to Goodison Park for the final time, facing a resurgent Everton, before they host Brentford at the Emirates on 12 April. If they bypass PSV, Arsenal will have a Champions League quarter-final against either Real or Atletico Madrid to consider around the Brentford fixture.
