Spectrum Aquatics Weekly Wonders of Age Group Swimming: 3/15/2025

Brought to you by Spectrum Aquatics, a SwimSwam partner, our Weekly Wonders of Age Group Swimming series celebrates swimmers of every age and experience level with age group profiles of some recent results.

Reid McCuiston, 10, Birmingham ‘Y’ Blue Dolphins (MI): McCuiston went undefeated at the Michigan 10 & Under All-Star meet at the beginning of the month in Ypsilanti, going wire-to-wire with six individual wins to go along with a pair of relay state titles. The Birmingham Blue Dolphins product set lifetime bests in all six events, highlighted by his swims in the 50 free (26.84) and 100 free (58.84), which rank him 13th and 15th, respectively, in the boys’ 10 & under age group this season. He also posted winning times in the 50 fly (29.69), 100 fly (1:07.21), 100 IM (1:10.11) and 200 IM (2:32.44).

Leighton Lentz, 13, Lake Erie Silver Dolphins (LE): Lentz claimed her fifth straight High Point award at the Winter Lake Erie Age Group Championships last weekend in Cleveland, winning all eight of her events and setting lifetime bests in all but one of them. Lentz’s top performances came in the 100 back, where she clocked 57.88 to rank 31st among 13-year-old girls this season. She also moved to 31st this season in the 400 IM (4:32.06), and set additional best times in the 100 free (55.28), 200 free (1:55.24), 500 free (5:08.83), 1650 free (17:36.27), 200 fly (2:13.18) and 200 IM (2:09.48).

Sheldon Lamb, 12, Ames Cyclone Aquatics Club (IA): Lamb had a standout showing at the Iowa Swimming Short Course Championships, setting personal best times in the 200 back and 200 fly while nearing his elite bests in the 50 free, 100 free and 100 back. Coming into the meet, Lamb had posted times earlier this season of 22.19 in the 50 free, 49.25 in the 100 free and 54.30 in the 100 back, ranking him 9th, 23rd and 21st, respectively, all-time in the boys’ 11-12 age group. At the meet two weeks ago, he posted times of 22.35 in the 50 free, 50.29 in the 100 free and 55.41 in the 100 back, and added new bests of 1:58.89 in the 200 back and 2:07.38 in the 200 fly, ranking him 2nd and 9th in the age group this season, respectively.

Miles Lee, 10, CAC Boulder Riptide (CO): Lee swept his events at the Colorado 14&U Age Group Championships two weeks ago, setting best times across the board and moving up in the all-time rankings for 10 & under boys in six races. Lee now ranks 23rd all-time for 10 & under boys in the 50 back (28.98), 38th in the 50 fly (27.89), 46th in the 100 back (1:02.75), 50th in the 50 free (25.72), and 69th in both the 100 free (56.26) and 100 IM (1:04.73).

Caleb Goodavish, 11, Verona Area Swim Team (WI): Goodavish piled up the best times at the Wisconsin LSC 11-14 Short Course Championships last weekend, winning six events and cracking the top 10 for 11-year-old boys in the U.S. this season in seven races. Goodavish moved to 5th this season for 11-year-olds in the 200 free (1:54.52) and 100 fly (59.29), into a tie for sixth in the 100 free (53.19), and also moved to 7th in the 50 fly (26.85), 8th in the 100 IM (1:01.54), 9th in the 50 back (28.15) and 200 IM (2:12.65), and 12th in the 100 back (1:01.25).

Roman Rodriguez, 16, Barracuda Swimming (NM): Rodriguez set a new New Mexico LSC Record in the 50 fly in both the 15-16 age group and in the open category at the NMS Short Course State Championships, clocking 21.92 to rank 2nd in the country this season among 15-16 boys. Rodriguez also set best times in the 50 back (23.44) and 100 back (50.15) at the meet.

Jett Hatchard, 12, Olympus Aquatics (UT): Hatchard was on fire at the Short Course UTAGS Championships last weekend, setting personal best times across the board as he ran the table with wins in all seven events he raced. Highlighting Hatchard’s effort was his backstroke swims, as he moved to 35th all-time in the boys’ 11-12 age group in the 200 back (1:59.01) and 45th all-time in the 50 back (25.76), also ranking 3rd and 5th in the country this season, respectively.
