LIV Golf’s final tune-up before the 2025 Masters took place in South Florida this week as Bryson DeChambeau, Phil Mickelson and the rest of LIV Golf descended on Trump National Doral.
Patrick Reed, the 2018 Masters champion, got off to a hot start at Doral, shooting five under on Day 1. But Reed slid back on Day 2 as DeChambeau roared out to a two-shot lead over Sergio Garcia, with Mickelson, Jon Rahm and Marc Leishman close behind.
“I’m not thinking about peaking or anything,” DeChambeau said about making sure his game is primed for Augusta. “I’m just thinking about how do I get better? What little things can I work on to be better? You can always get better, and that’s kind of the mentality I take into these major championships, these LIV events. How do I just keep getting better? And sometimes I’m not there, I don’t have anything and I don’t know what’s going on for whatever reason. But as I’m getting a little bit older, I’m learning how to stay on track a lot more, be more consistently on track.”
DeChambeau entered Sunday with a chance to secure his first LIV win since 2023, but the two-time U.S. Open champion had a day to forget at Doral. DeChambeau bogeyed the first hole and made double bogey at the fourth. He made another double at the par-5 11th and watched as Leishman cruised past him to grab the lead and never look back, holding off Charl Schwartzel and Garcia to earn his first LIV Golf title. DeChambeau finished in fifth place.
