Nottingham Forest vs Everton: Preview, predictions and lineups

Nottingham Forest continue their march towards Champions League qualification on Saturday when they host Everton in the Premier League.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side were offered the welcome news that fifth place will be enough to secure a place in Europe’s premier competition next season following Arsenal’s demolition of Real Madrid, but the Tricky Trees are aiming higher as they continue to sit pretty in third.

The Midlands side can ill-afford complacency down the stretch, however, with the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Newcastle United on their tail. Having been beaten by Aston Villa last weekend, Forest must return to winning ways against Everton.

The Toffees have proven difficult to beat since the return of David Moyes in the dugout but they have struggled to source victories in recent weeks. They have drawn five and lost one of their previous six Premier League outings and have little to play for between now and the campaign’s conclusion.

Here is 90min’s guide to the clash.

Forward injuries have come at the worst time for Forest, with Chris Wood their most notable absentee in the final third. The New Zealand international has been missing since the international break and could be sidelined again on Saturday.

Wood’s replacement, Taiwo Awoniyi, missed the clash with Villa last weekend following a hamstring injury, while the speedy Anthony Elanga was also withdrawn at Villa Park after sustaining an unspecified knock.

Ola Aina is guaranteed to miss out in defence but Alex Moreno is available after being ineligible to face parent club Aston Villa.

Nottingham Forest predicted lineup vs Everton (4-2-3-1): Sels; Williams, Milenkovic, Murillo, Moreno; Dominguez, Anderson; Sosa, Gibbs-White, Hudson-Odoi; Silva.

Everton have seen Iliman Ndiaye and Dwight McNeil make comebacks during recent matches but they will still be without Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jesper Lindstrom in the final third. Return dates remain unknown for the pair.

Orel Mangala will be unavailable for the remainder of the season after tearing his ACL and Vitaliy Mykolenko is doubtful to feature at left-back having missed the Arsenal draw last weekend with a knock to his ankle.

Everton predicted lineup vs Nottingham Forest (4-2-3-1): Pickford; O’Brien, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Patterson; Gueye, Garner; Ndiaye, Doucoure, McNeil; Beto.

Forest have been hugely impressive on home soil this season and will be favourites to secure victory on Saturday. They haven’t lost at the City Ground since November and despite several forward injuries, they should be able to overcome Everton’s low block.

No side has kept more clean sheets that Forest’s 13 in the Premier League this season either and they will fancy another shutout against Everton. The Toffees struggle for attacking inspiration and haven’t scored more than once in any of their past five matches.

Prediction: Nottingham Forest 2-0 Everton
