The Beavs arrived in Italy at 1 p.m. local time (4 a.m. PT) and, after making their way through customs, headed straight to Pompeii to ward off any potential jetlag and learn about the historic city.
A trip to the Cantina del Vesuvio winery opened the trip with the Beavers enjoying their first Italian spaghetti as well as an assortment of in-house oils and vinaigrettes. The team got a history lesson on the local wine and winery, which opened in 1930 and remains in the same family nearly 100 years later.
The travel party then embarked on a walking tour of the ancient city, wandering through the former homes, roads and civic centers while learning about the history of Pompeii prior to the eruption. The tour began at an entrance to the city, with an education on Roman culture and its influence coming alongside a two-mile walk all over the historic cobblestones.
Taking it all in. ??

The day closed with a bus back to Naples – home base for the first few days of the adventure – and dinner at a nearby pizza and spaghetti spot. Oregon State closed the day a touch early in anticipation of an early start for their first full day in Italy.
