Rankings: Hawkins Takes Top Spot

Barry Hawkins has leapt to the top of the one-year ranking list and the BetVictor Series rankings thanks to his BetVictor European Masters triumph.

Hawkins won his first ranking title for six years by beating Judd Trump 9-6 in the final in Germany on Sunday, earning £80,000. With an overall tally of £82,000, he is the clear leader in the race to win the £150,000 BetVictor bonus, which will be based on performances in six more events across the season, culminating at the BetVictor Welsh Open in February.

And with top spot on the one-year list, Hawkins is also in prime position to qualify for the three events in the Players Series. The top 32 (at the relevant cut-off point) will qualify for the World Grand Prix in Leicester in January, then the top 16 will progress to the Players Championship in Telford in February, and only the top 12 will earn a spot at the Tour Championship, which moves to a new home in Manchester in April.

Trump earned £35,000 as runner-up and he’s in second place on both lists with £41,000, followed by BetVictor Championship League winner Shaun Murphy with £40,500. Mark Selby and John Higgins both reached the semi-finals in Germany, earning £17,500. Ashley Carty made the quarter-finals of a ranking event for the first time in his career, banking £11,000.

On the official two-year list, Hawkins climbs to 13th place. Luca Brecel would have overtaken Ronnie O’Sullivan as world number one if he had reached the semi-finals, but he lost to Hawkins in the last 16 so he remains second, just £5,000 behind the Rocket. Brecel’s next chance to take top spot will come at the Cazoo British Open which runs from September 25 to October 1 in Cheltenham.

The two year list will now be used to determine seedings for the BetVictor English Open, Wuhan Open and International Championship, with draws for those events to be announced soon.

There are six remaining counting events in the Race to the 2024 Masters, with the top 16 at the end of the UK Championship to earn a place at Alexandra Palace in January. Hawkins has jumped to 14th spot to put himself on track for a Masters berth. Ding Junhui is now 16th, with Hossein Vafaei leading the chasing pack in 17th.

Hawkins is also now sure of a place at the Champion of Champions in November.

Tickets for all of these tournaments are on sale now – for details click here.
