Kathleen Dawson Leads Stirling Clean Sweep Of 100 Back In Edinburgh

Kathleen Dawson led a Stirling clean sweep in the 100 back and Katie Shanahan made two trips to the podium on day two of the Scottish National & Open Short Course Swimming Championships in Edinburgh.

Dawson, the European long-course record holder, led throughout to take the title in 58.60 with Shanahan – who won the 200 back on day one – second in 58.60 and Holly McGill third in 59.12.

That followed a clear victory for Shanahan in the 200IM where she stopped the clock in 2:08.08, 1.85secs ahead of Grace Davison, set represent Swim Ireland at the short-course worlds next week and who was second in 2:09.93. Suzie McNair, winner of the 400IM, was third in 2:14.71.

Davison returned for the 50 free where she was second behind Evie Davis, the University of Stirling swimmer clocking 25.14 to 25.26 with Lucy Hope completing the podium in 25.36.

Leah Crisp took over the lead at the 300m mark before pulling away to win in 4:09.13. As with the 800 which Crisp won, Michaella Glenister, who’d set the pace, took the Scottish title in 4:11.78 with Hope next home in 4:19.30.

Jack McMillan, who won Olympic gold as a prelims swimmer with the Great Britain 4×2 relay at Paris 2024, added the 200 free to his 100 title in 1:41.94 ahead of Cameron Brooker (1:43.26) and George Smith (1:45.27). Brooker also won the 50 back in 23.75 to add to his 200 back title.

University of Stirling teammates Lucy Grieve and Keanna MacInnes fought out a stroke-for-stroke duel in the 100 fly. MacInnes led by 0.04 at halfway before being overhauled by Grieve in 57.79 to 57.84.

Rory Dickson completed the 50/100 breaststroke double with a 59.10 victory in the longer race with Matthew Randle also breaking the minute barrier in 59.80.

Luke Hornsey clinched the distance double with a comprehensive victory in the 1500, touching in 15:10.70.
