A Heartbreaking Loss for Figure Skating: Honoring DC Plane Crash Victims

The figure skating world is mourning a devastating tragedy. A plane crash took the lives of 14 incredible skaters who dedicated their lives to the sport. “We are heartbroken to learn that figure skaters, along with their families, friends and coaches, are understood to be among those on board,” U.S. Figure Skating said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragedy.

“Figure skating is more than a sport — it’s a close-knit family — and we stand together.”

At Swimming World, our hearts go out to everyone affected by this unimaginable event. These skaters were more than just competitors; they were leaders, role models, and an inspiration to so many. For those in the swimming world, this heartbreak resonates deeply. Imagine if a plane carrying members of Team USA and top international swimmers had gone down. The impact would be catastrophic, forever altering the sport. The same is true for figure skating. These athletes spent years training, competing, and representing their countries with pride.

Their loss is immeasurable, and their legacy must not be forgotten.
