Jordan provides health update, still undergoing chemotherapy

Former F1 team boss Eddie Jordan has provided an update on his ongoing battle with cancer, revealing that he is currently undergoing chemotherapy as he continues his fight against the disease.

The Irishman, who ran the Jordan Grand Prix team from 1991 to 2005, first disclosed his diagnosis of an “aggressive” form of prostate and bladder cancer in December 2024.

The illness had spread to his pelvis and spine, making treatment a challenging journey.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Formula for Success podcast alongside main host David Coulthard, Jordan shared insights into his treatment and offered words of encouragement to those facing similar battles.

“I am in the middle of a chemo cycle at the moment. It happened to be on today when we’re doing this recording in good shape,” he said.

A Message of Hope and Encouragement

Despite the grueling nature of chemotherapy, Jordan remained positive and urged others to be proactive about their health.

“I must say, look guys and girls, don’t be afraid. Go and get tested. I will just leave it at that. I don’t want to be a gramophone record going round and round,” he added;

“The reality is that there’s a great chance of survival. There’s an unbelievable opportunity of good medical care everywhere in the world now.”

Praising the medical professionals involved in his treatment, Jordan expressed gratitude for the care he has received in Cape Town, where he resides during the northern hemisphere’s winter months.

“Chemotherapy, they seem to have their act together. Cape Town has been brilliant. I’ve had four chemo so far.”

The 76-year-old acknowledged the uncertainty of his journey but remained hopeful.

“You never know if it hasn’t completely gone. Might have to go for another one or two,” he said.

“You wouldn’t want your very best friend to have chemo because it’s not very desirable, but at the same time the outlook and future is great. God bless those guys in the medical field.”

Spending Time with Newey

As he continues his treatment, Jordan has been spending time with Adrian Newey, the legendary F1 designer whose interests he manages.

With Newey currently on gardening leave before joining Aston Martin next month, the two have been enjoying time together in South Africa.

“His little holiday, his little gardening leave is coming fast to a close,” Jordan said. “He’s here in Cape Town with me. We’re having breakfast tomorrow before he flies off [to begin with Aston Martin].

“He spends a lot of time here. Amanda [Newey’s wife] is South African. They have a couple of homes, they enjoy their time here. They sometimes send their dogs down here.”

Jordan’s update serves as a testament to his resilience, optimism, and appreciation for the support around him.

His words offer a powerful reminder of the importance of early detection and the strength that can be found in facing adversity head-on.
