Everyone Asks Me Which Golf Shoes To Buy. Here’s What I Tell Them To Avoid

A few weeks ago, I wrote about my top golf shoe recommendations. People always ask me what to buy and coming up with a good answer can be a challenge at times.

On the flip side, it’s much easier to offer advice in regard to which golf shoes to avoid. There are, after all, way too many “bad” pairs parading around as “good” and I can’t let them make their way into your golf shoe rotation.

Here are three pairs of golf shoes to avoid.

1. NIKE Zoom Victory Tour 3

No matter how much I tried to like this pair, I just can’t. They’re way too narrow (even for someone with a narrow foot like me) and the shoe suffers in stability and comfort because of that.

The traction is good albeit not the best I’ve ever seen. But the TPU bottom negates any of the real comfort of forgiveness you feel from the foam midsole. Not a fan here.

2. Boxto Legacy Love

This is another pair I really wanted to like. I love the premium leather upper and all of the cool details but in the end, the sole is way too heavy and way too stiff. The traditional-style golf shoes are rarely comfortable, in my opinion, and this pair definitely lives up to that.

If you want something in this style, I’d recommend the adidas MC80 any day of the week.

3. Oluaki Wai’alae

Olukai makes the best sandals. When I’m at home, I wear a pair of Oluklai flip-flops 90 percent of the time (much to the chagrin of my wife, who harps on me for not wearing some of my 30-plus pairs of shoes instead).

But they haven’t quite cracked the golf shoe code. I’ve seen a ton of influencers rocking this pair. I just can’t do it. The slip-in heel gives the shoe major stability problems and the traction is non-existent. It is, as all Olukai products are, very comfortable, though!

So what do I recommend?

Of all the hundreds of golf shoes I’ve worn over the years, there are some pairs that I really like. You can read more about that here.
