Spectrum Aquatics Weekly Wonders of Age Group Swimming: 4/5/2025

Gabriel Brown, 9, Fishers Area Swimming Tigers (IN): Brown won five individual titles at the Indiana Age Group Championships, setting six new best times and breaking two Indiana LSC state records along the way. The nine-year-old clocked 2:03.25 in the 200 free to break the Indiana state record for 10 & under boys, moving into 76th all-time in the age group and 3rd this season. He also set a new state record in the 200 IM, clocking 2:20.51, which ranks him 5th this season for 10 & under boys. Brown also moved into the top 100 all-time in the 50 back, going 30.11 for 100th all-time and 9th this season, and he also ranks 10th this season in the 100 back (1:04.41).

Ian Brenenborg, 12, Racer X Aquatics (AM): Brenenborg set nine personal best times at the West Virginia Short Course Championships in mid-March in Morgantown, highlighted by a pair of standout swims in the distance freestyle events. In the 1650 free, Brenenborg dropped more than 19 seconds from his best time to clock 17:04.98, lowering his Allegheny Mountain LSC Record for 11-12 boys and move into 62nd all-time in the age group. The Racer X Aquatics swimmer also set an LSC record in the 1000 free, posting a time of 10:14.21 to rank 83rd all-time in the 11-12 age group. In the 2024-25 season, Brenenborg ranks 2nd in the nation in the 1650 free and 3rd in the 1000 free for 11-12 boys.

Millie Conner, 12, Team Greenville (SC): Conner has had back-to-back standout performances at the South Carolina TG Short Course Championships in late February and then the SwimAtlanta Best of the South meet in mid-March, setting best times in 10 different events across the two meets. At Best of the South, Conner moved into 7th this season in the girls’ 11-12 age group in the 50 fly (26.37), 15th in the 100 fly (59.08), 22nd in the 200 fly (2:13.77), 23rd in the 1650 free (18:22.45), 29th in the 100 back (1:00.39) and 38th in the 50 back (28.26). At the first meet in February, while she was still 11, Conner posted a PB of 2:11.47 in the 200 back that ranks 6th this season among 11-year-olds and 39th in the 11-12 age group. She also went 1:02.97 in the 100 IM, good for 13th-fastest this season among 11-year-olds.

Davis Jackson, 16, TAC Titans (NC): Jackson set three significant best times at the TAC Titans Tarheel States meet two weeks ago, headlined by his swim in the 200 IM. Coming into the meet with a best time of 1:48.54, Jackson clocked 1:48.27 in the prelims before getting all the way down to 1:46.56 in the final, moving him into a tie for 41st all-time in the boys’ 15-16 age group and #9 this season. Jackson also brought his best time down from 50.36 to 48.89 in the 100 fly, and from 4:57.77 to 4:32.86 in the 500 free.

Marley Spray, 14, Gold Medal Swim Club (AZ): Spray was on fire at last week’s Speedo Sectionals in Austin, setting seven best times and moving up the all-time rankings in four events. Spray clocked 53.12 in the 100 back to rank 17th all-time in the girls’ 13-14 age group and #2 this season, while she moves to 41st all-time in the 200 back (1:56.36), 56th in the 100 free (49.88) and tied for 95th in the 200 IM (2:01.41). Spray also now ranks 14th this season in the age group in the 50 back (25.69), tied for 20th in the 50 free (23.35) and 24th in the 200 free (1:50.42).

Grant Murphy, 18, Annapolis Swim Club (MD): Murphy went undefeated individually across the Maryland LSC Senior Champs in February and the Speedo Sectionals – Buffalo in March, setting eight best time in short course yards at the first meet and six more in long course meters at the second. At the Maryland Senior Champs (SCY), Murphy’s top swims came in the backstroke events, clocking PBs in the 50 back (22.20), 100 back (47.53) and 200 back (1:43.68) to rank tied for 35th, tied for 42nd and 30th this season in the boys’ 17-18 age group, respectively. At Sectionals (LCM), the UVA commit set a PB of 4:24.67 in the 400 IM to rank #1 this season in the 17-18 age group, while he moves to 3rd this season in the 100 back (56.82) and 200 back (2:02.93) and 9th in the 100 breast (1:04.19) with best times.
