Exploring the Best Swimming Holes in and around North Brisbane

Cedar Creek Falls near Samford

Here in North Brisbane, we have a plethora of opportunities to cool off on a hot summer day, whether it be a plunge in a public pool, or visit to a nearby beach. However, here’s nothing quite like the serenity and natural beauty of a swimming hole.

Here at Echo News, we have compiled a list of these hidden gems that aren’t too far away and perfect for a refreshing dip or a day of relaxation in nature. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, here are some of the best swimming holes around South East Queensland.

  1. Cedar Creek Falls Located in the D’Aguilar National Park, Cedar Creek Falls is a popular choice for those seeking a peaceful escape from the bustling city. This swimming hole is surrounded by lush rainforest, offering a tranquil environment to relax in. The falls themselves cascade into a deep, clear pool that’s perfect for swimming and even has a rock ledge for jumping. You can also explore the nearby walking tracks and enjoy a picnic in the designated areas.

  2. Enoggera Reservoir If you prefer a more controlled swimming experience with lifeguards on duty, head to Enoggera Reservoir. This man-made waterhole is part of the Enoggera Reservoir Recreation Reserve and provides a safe and well-maintained place for swimming. Surrounded by bushland, you can enjoy the serene setting while taking a dip. There are also opportunities for kayaking, paddleboarding, and picnicking in the area.

  3. Bunya Swimming Hole is a hidden gem waiting to be explored by those seeking an escape from the city’s hustle and bustle. Tucked away in the serene surroundings of Bunya in the Moreton Bay Region, this natural oasis offers a refreshing and picturesque spot for a day of relaxation and outdoor fun.

  4. Joyner Park and Lake Samsonvale: Just north of Brendale and Strathpine, Joyner Park and the adjoining Lake Samsonvale provide another great spot for swimming. The park offers picnic areas, barbecues, and a chance to cool off in the lake.

  5. Neurum Creek Located in the lush D’Aguilar National Park, Neurum Creek is a delightful swimming spot for those who appreciate a natural setting. The creek offers crystal-clear waters and a shaded area for relaxation. If you’re up for an adventure, consider camping at Neurum Creek Campground and extending your stay in this beautiful wilderness.

  6. Rocky Hole Also situated in the D’Aguilar National Park, Rocky Hole is another gem waiting to be explored. It’s an idyllic natural swimming pool formed by the rocks in the Cedar Creek. This secluded spot is great for a quiet day in nature, complete with lush surroundings and clear, cool water. Please note that there are no facilities, so you’ll need to come prepared.

  7. Gardners Falls Just a short drive from the heart of Maleny, Gardners Falls is a popular swimming hole on the Sunshine Coast but still accessible from North Brisbane. This spot is a true hidden paradise, featuring cascading waterfalls and inviting pools surrounded by lush greenery. It’s a favorite among locals and tourists alike, offering the perfect setting for a day of swimming and sunbathing.

  8. Kondalilla Falls For a unique swimming experience, visit Kondalilla Falls in the Montville region of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. The falls cascade into a deep rock pool that’s perfect for a refreshing swim. Before or after your swim, you can explore the Kondalilla National Park and its various walking tracks, making this a full day of adventure and relaxation.

Remember to respect the environment and leave no trace when visiting these natural swimming holes. Carry out all your rubbish, avoid disturbing the local wildlife, and follow any park regulations to help preserve these beautiful places for future generations to enjoy.

In North Brisbane, you don’t have to travel far to find picturesque swimming holes that offer a break from the heat and a chance to connect with nature. Whether you prefer the tranquility of Cedar Creek Falls, the controlled environment of Enoggera Reservoir, or the rugged beauty of spots like Neurum Creek and Rocky Hole, these swimming holes are sure to become your go-to destinations for a day of relaxation and fun.
